Responsible gambling
In short
Gambling should be paid entertainment, never a way to make money. Set a budget and a time limit before you play, and stop when it stops being fun. Free, confidential help is open 24 hours a day.
Where can you get help right now?
- 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738). The National Problem Gambling Helpline, run by the National Council on Problem Gambling. Call, text or chat, 24/7.
- 1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537). Run by the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey and used by many state programs. 800gambler.org
- In an emergency, or if you are thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 or call 911.
What are the warning signs of a gambling problem?
- You gamble with money meant for bills, rent or food.
- You chase losses by depositing again to win them back.
- You hide your gambling or lie about how much you spend.
- You borrow money or sell things to keep playing.
- Gambling takes time away from work, family or sleep.
How do you set limits that work?
- Pick a monthly budget you could lose without it hurting.
- Set a deposit limit in your casino account for that amount.
- Set a time limit with a phone timer or screen-time tools.
- Never gamble when upset, drunk or tired. These are the moments limits break.
What is self-exclusion?
Self-exclusion is a ban you put on yourself. Ask a casino's support team to close or lock your account for a set time or for good. That is the only option that covers offshore casinos. States with licensed online casinos also run their own programs, which cover the licensed sites in that state.
